On a whim I bought one of those cheap “RTL-SDR” receivers and from then on got fascinated with the technology and what can be found out there “on the air”. After experimenting with receiving SDR software I decided I wanted to be able to transmit too, so I got licensed.
I'm writing my own custom SDR front-end software, ShinySDR, which focuses on usability, platform compatibility, and remote operation. Right now it is receive-only and focused on what is readily doable with the ultra-cheap “RTL-SDR” hardware, but I hope to extend it to support transmission via SDR transmitters as well as computer control of standalone radio equipment.
