Questions tagged [maidenhead-locator]

The Maidenhead locator system allows expressing a latitude and longitude as a compact series of letters and numbers, and was adopted in 1980. A Maidenhead locator is typically expressed as two or three groups of two characters each; if higher precision is required, four groups of two characters each can be used. Groups alternate between letters and numbers; for example BL (field), BL11 (square), BL11BH (subsquare), or BL11BH16 (extended square).
