I plan to build omni antenna. My goal all about better gain versus a 1/4 wave antenna.

I am curious about radial position of the legendary ARX2B Ringo Ranger.

  • Why is the position in below feed point?
  • What does the cable do?
    • Is it some kind balun?
  • Will this add extra db to the gain ?

Maybe i will build a Hustler "G7 like" with lower ground plane.

  • Will this odd ground plane position give better gain?

Preferred design was 2 or 3 times of 5/8 wave length.

  • $\begingroup$ I read that the radials were added in the "B" version to decouple the coax from the RF. The original version just had the ring at the bottom which worked, but the radials improved it a bit. And while this isn't the appropriate forum, you'll find strong feelings about Ringo Rangers. $\endgroup$ – Duston Jul 29 at 14:26
