Does an antenna tuner remove standing waves from a transmission line ?

• ham.stackexchange.com/questions/9044/… has a really good explanation. TL;DR: no – Chris K8NVH Sep 4 at 10:22
• I'm assuming that your tuner is at the shack end of the transmission line, and not at the antenna feedpoint? The answer depends on knowing this. – Mike Waters Sep 4 at 15:04
• That is correct. – Andrew Sep 7 at 0:18

An antenna matching network (aka "tuner") does not affect the conditions of the load (antenna) or the transmission line between the load and the matching network. The matching network transforms the impedance "looking into" the transmission line to a more desirable value, typically 50$$\Omega$$ for ham applications.
